If you're purchasing a classic or vintage vehicle and it is registered out of state, you need a certificate of title from out of state.  If it is older than 1975, you don't need a smog check but you always need a VIN verification.  We are licensed by the CA DMV to do the VIN verifications.  You can bring it to our office or we can go to the vehicle location.   Make sure you have located the VIN number and that it matches your certificate of title . 

If the classic vehicle is a vehicle from California, and it has not been registered in many years meaning it is out of California DMV records, then it needs a VIN verification , an application for title and registration  (REG 343), a statement of facts to explain the history of the vehicle before you bought it, and a bill of sale or certificate of title.
